February 2014 Hardy Ontario Pecans

98-year-old Minnie Sheridan has a large, lonely ultra-hardy northern pecan tree beside her home. We can only guess they were planted the same time as her 65-year-old hardy Persian walnuts.

In the early spring of 2013, EDEN in SEASON gave her solitary pecan a fellow mate. As a pollinator tree, it will also help pollinate her pecan tree to produce nuts. Imagine Minnie’s delight as she saw this beautiful pecan finally bear its first nuts in 65 years this past summer!

Minnie is a little camera-shy so only pics of her photogenic trees are shown, but we were able to convince her to speak on CTV news to capture her story on film last autumn.
